Sustaining Peace

What is Peace?

Peace is defined as "wholeness and well-ness in all areas of life." Peace is an important part of our lives. In the Jewish community, people greet each other with "shalom"- which translated, is "peace".  In every letter that apostle Paul wrote he begins and ends the letter with "Grace and peace be with you from our God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ."I believe peace is critical and necessary in ours lives. It  sustains us, gives us hope, and encourages us to keep going. There are many different areas of peace. Peace in relationships-family, freinds, the church, and with others. More importantly, peace with yourself, and  in relationship to your creator.

Source of Peace

How then, do we obtain this "peace" that sustains us? There is only one true source: God, our Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Peace comes as a divine gift.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."  (Philippians 4:6-7)

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:16-17)

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)

This world has deceived many people to obtain a "false"peace. This world advertizes a peace that is found  in objects, money, relationships, even ourselves. This is actually no peace at all. All these things are temporarily and after death, all becomes vanity, completely useless.

Solomon, the wisest man ever lived, and one of the richest, he spent many of his later years trying to find fulfillment in life. He writes he denied himself nothing, anything he wanted he had. Anything he desired he would obtain. He did not refuse any bit of pleasure. He even had 700wifes and 300 concubines! He undertook great projects, built cities, still he could not find fulfillment, true sanctification. He concludes all pleasures are useless. Additionally, work, wisdom, folly, is also meaningless. But this is all under one condition, living without knowing God. King Solomon comes to the ultimate conclusion, that living life without knowing and a relationship with God is COMPLETELY USELESS, it is vanity, a waste.
(I highly suggest everyone to read the book of Ecclesiastes! It is not long, and will serve good purpose)

But we are not of this world, and we are bought with a price! God is the only source of true peace. Our peace comes from above, If we know God, we will know peace. This does not happen overnight, it is a ongoing process, knowing God is a relationship, and we must seek Him daily. Growth is comes from reading and applying the word to our daily life, praying,  witnessing to others, and  just spending time with Him. Although we do live on this earth, our treasures are stored above.

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Mathew 6:19-21

Place your peace in God. He is the source of life.

2 Corinthians 13:11  Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Favorite Bible Verses:

Here are some of my favorite Bible verses. I will update this list as I discover more. These are are great to know or memorize.  Paul writes we must able to give an answer to those who ask. Knowing the word will help us defend, preach, and be a witness to others of our faith.

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. – 1 Peter 3:15-16

The word will also help us and guide us through the mountains and valleys of life. When everything falls apart, knowing God's promises will lead you through. I have had a couple life-changing experiences which I will share in a later post.

Truth

"You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32

Watch this video, it is a great reminder who we are in Christ and what has been done for us. GRACE! God is real folks, get to know him!

How do we do know the truth?  Lets read the previous verse for context:

"If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples, THEN you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

What  are we free from?

We are free from sin. Christ has set us free, we are a new creation in Christ, and we are no longer a slave to sin. "if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:37)- also a nice song about this verse:-))  Im not saying once you know Christ, you will never sin again. No, this is not what this verse means. When we discover Christ our passions, goals, our entire world view changes. We are literally (in our spirit) a new person, transformed. This life on earth is a journey and there WILL be temptations, there will be struggles, and there will be times when we fall due to sin.

"If the Lord delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand" Psalm 37:24

God's love and his grace comprehensible. I do not completely understand, and its crazy when I think about it. The penalty of sin is death. No matter how big or small the sin, we all stand guilty and without excuse, before our  Creator. How then, is there any hope for us? A substitution was made. Jesus, God's son, said "I will go"  He went on earth, took our place, took our sin upon himself, and paid the ultimate penalty (death!). When God looks at us, we are covered by the blood of Jesus

He will take us back into his arms if we come running back to him. This does not give us a license to sin. We cannot knowingly sin repetitively, and think in the back of our minds " God is loving and He will forgive me". Gods grace is grace is abound, but there will be a time when we stand before Him and must give an answer.

We are bought with a very high  price. There is life and power in the blood of Jesus Christ.

Hs is the Truth, the Way, the Life!

Find Truth, find life.

God Bless

AMAZING GRACE

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance to do for us”

Ephesians 2:8
This is what my blog is going to be about. SAVED BY AMAZING GRACE. There is nothing, again, NOTHING we could to do to deserve it, not by works, self-righteousness, anything else. We are saved by grace through faith and works are simply the fruit of saving grace. My boast is in Him. Jesus is my king, my Savoir, my Deliverer, my Rock, my Salvation.  He is the one that paid the ultimate price.

Let me introduce a little about self. My name is David (means “beloved”J). I am truly blessed and follower of Jesus, and here on earth created for His purpose. It’s only by the grace of God that I am here, what God has opened up his word to me.  I am a current college student studying NPB (Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior) at the University of Davis. If by God’s plan, I am studying currently to be become a doctor or surgeon one day. I love creation and the outdoors. After God created this earth and everything in it he said “it was good” and it truly is, every time I go hiking, mountain biking, or mountaineering, I am amazed by what our creator has created for us. It makes life worth living. Even sun, the moon, and the stars bring Him glory. AND THEY DON’T EVEN SAY A WORD! Sometimes I’m a driving to college early morning, and I get to see the sun rise, and times I am speechless, at how beautiful it is and that there is a creator behind everything. Okay, enough about me…

I am starting this blog to share my experiences, struggles, victories, spiritual growth, prayers, thoughts on life, and basically anything that makes us human. My goal to give the glory to God and my boast would always be in Him. His amazing grace. I pray that this blog would serve to build up as well  as myself. I do not claim to know everything or even be completely right in my theology. I am human, and have lots to learn! My blogs will be based on my experiences, thoughts, and scripture. “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”  (Heb. 4:12). I believe the Word (Bible) is true and inspired by God.

I will try to update as often as I can (at least once a week, hopefully more). Through our busy lives, life happens and time escapes from us. I find this very true, as I am very busy with college, work, and the daily struggles and rewards life brings. Anyone is welcome to comment, share any prayer requests, experiences, or thoughts.  That we may encourage one another in Christ,
Share this blog with others.

God bless!
